Laos’ first dry port moves forward to world connectivity
SAVANNAKHET, Laos (Vientiane Times/ANN) – Operated by the Savan Logistics Company Limited, Laos’ first dry port at the Savan Park Zone C in the Savan-Seno Special Economic Zone is now closer to becoming a regional trans-shipment hub between Asean and China via existing linkages to regional ports.
In this strategic geographical location, the country’s first Dry Port/Inland Container Depot is now connecting Laos to the world by linking with the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) between Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, mid-way between the nearest Vietnamese seaport of Danang and Thai ports in Bangkok and Laem Chabang.
Savan Logistics as a dry port operator, on behalf of the Lao government, believes that its connectivity of regional trans-shipment services will also link the EWEC with China’s One Belt, One Road initiative, which will provide more effective shipments of goods more cheaply and faster.
Being connected with the region and the world, the result is a perfectly positioned transport hub at the centre of an intermodal network, designed to connect carriers, freight forwarders, importers and exporters with their overseas customers by providing access to world class trucks, container and bulk cargo facilities.
At present, a variety of services is on offer at the dry port by Savan Logistics including a free trade zone facility with easy re-exporting procedure, deferral and reduction of container duties as well as improved compliance, inventory tracking and quality control.
Most importantly, the dry port provides an unlimited storage time for its customers. One of the outstanding services is that on-site customs clearance can be done all at once for both imports and exports.
The automated system for customs data, commonly known in short as ASYCUDA, is also installed at the port and tax payment using the smart-tax system is also available.
Presently, the port is eager to upgrade its service regarding quicker procedures and time-saving methods by having Lao agricultural quarantine and inspection services and food and drug inspections all at the same place.
Customers can be confident in the ultimate service of risk management through vehicle tracking and driver monitoring, which will ensure the authorised shipment of goods from one truck to another before reaching the final destination.
CCTV surveillance and recording services 24 hours daily as well as an electronic locking system are available for each container.
Connecting logistics services for complete goods trans-shipment, the company provides linkages between road freight, ocean freight and air freight all at once to ensure door-to-door and port-to-port delivery and everything in between.
With its professional and advanced service, the company also provides a mobile X-Ray, electronic seal and scales that can weigh loads of up to 80 tonnes and a reefer station service.
Savan Logistics, an experienced international operator, with particular expertise in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar and China, now accommodates over 500 trucks per month from Asean.
It expects to provide a prompt and dependable terminal service for international shipping lines based on its prime location at the centre of the Great Mekong Sub-region corridors.
